Background:

Founded in 2013, Beer52 is the UK’s largest craft beer subscription club. They operate a monthly delivery service of curated craft beers around the world. Each month is a different theme and they deliver thousands of boxes every single month.

Objective:

Their goal was to gain new subscribers to their free trial, which users could receive by just paying for shipping of their first box. Their ultimate aim was garnering a strong retention rate from newly loyal subscribers.

What We Did:

  • We established maximum Cost Per Acquisition (CPA) and minimum retention rates, to use as boundaries in our strategies.
  • Our internal design team created entirely new marketing creatives, with a focus on conversion while keeping in line with brand design guidelines.
  • We worked hand in hand with the client to design new videos that showcase the product offerings, which performed exceptionally well for direct response ads.
  • Setup advertising campaigns across 6 of the largest ad networks, covering search, display, social and native.
  • Split tested over 200 variations of ads to find winning combinations that drove the lowest CPAs and highest retentions.
  • Delivered weekly reports breaking down spends, best performing ads and results to keep the client updated.

Summary:

Through intensive and iterative creative design, pinpointing the right target audience and utilising existing data of top performing customers, we were able to create a well balanced campaign that delivered on both scale and retention while maintaining very low initial cost per acquisitions.

Our Results:

  • We delivered more than 10,000 free trial subscribers within a period of 6 months.
  • We reduced average CPAs from ~£20 to under £10 per free trial subscriber.
  • We averaged a retention rate of 35%, with more than 1 in 3 free trial subscribers developing into a full paying member.
